Hello & Welcome
The Governors of the College are looking for an exceptionally talented individual with the vision, qualities of leadership, and strategic thinking to take Notre Dame forward into the next stage of our development.
Notre Dame is a very high performing and successful Catholic College. We are currently in a very strong position in Leeds – oversubscribed and very popular with young people and their parents. However, the College recognises the challenge it faces from competition with other local post-16 providers. The student population has grown to around 1,900 in recent years, but throughout this period of continuing growth, standards have been maintained and the financial position has remained strong and well consolidated.
The College achieved an Outstanding Ofsted rating in 2008; the rigorous quality assurance systems ensure that quality is maintained, through detailed scrutiny of performance data and implementation of effective quality improvement plans.
The campus is close to Leeds University, Leeds Becket University, and the Leeds Arts University. There are excellent transport links into and within Leeds and the College is only a short walk from the railway station. The campus is compact, set back in a quiet avenue off a main arterial road into the city centre. The last decade has seen a transformation in terms of the quality of buildings at Notre Dame.
Approximately 80% of the teaching accommodation has been newly built as a result of expansion or new build to replace older accommodation. The most recent project was completed in September 2015. Classrooms are highly equipped with ICT equipment and well furnished. Student social space is always at a premium, but we have managed to expand this as the College population has grown. Staff social space is of a high quality and is comfortable.
Leeds has twenty three secondary schools with their own sixth form. The Diocese of Leeds has three 11-16 schools in inner-Leeds and one 11-18 outside the city centre. Students from our Catholic partner schools constitute the majority of our student body. As a rule, we attract students from around eighty different high schools each year, with many travelling from Wakefield and Bradford.
Notre Dame is a key player on the Leeds educational scene, as a major contributor to HE progression and one of only four institutions with an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating for their post-16 work (three high schools have received that grade in addition to Notre Dame). The College is very active in ACVIC (the Association of Catholic Sixth Form Colleges in England and Wales), NorVIc (the group of fifteen Yorkshire, Humberside and North Eastern sixth form colleges) as well as the Leeds Federation of Colleges.
Notre Dame is the only sixth form college in the city, but there is one 16-19 free school and another two are planned. There are also two FE colleges whose provision at 16-18 is mainly in technical and vocational courses. Notre Dame works very closely with the Local Authority through the 11-19 (25) Support Group and other bodies, and we also enjoy a very positive relationship with the ESFA.
Notre Dame has an enviable programme of enhancement opportunities, ranging from successful sports teams, to drama, law mentoring opportunities, the Lourdes Pilgrimage, rock climbing, to educational trips to Europe and China In addition there are numerous fitness, volunteering, and mentoring opportunities, together with a range of charitable and fundraising activities. These activities are a testament to a highly dedicated staff.
The Corporation is made up of a mix of Foundation Governors, appointed by the Diocese, and others, and between them they cover a wide range of expertise and support the development of the College.
We have a very strong platform for continuing success during a time when education as a whole faces significant change. There has scarcely been a time in the last twenty years of life in sixth form colleges when education was not undergoing transformation – but Notre Dame has flourished throughout and will continue to do so.
